Szklarska Poreba has fantastic trails for practicing ski-touring.
While hiking on skis is not new, this kind of active leisure is undergoing a renaissance. Even before the era of the ski rider who wanted a taste of winter, he first had to climb a mountain.
This trip was a full day tour. And although the ski lifts undoubtedly make our lives easier, many of them give up in spite of the convenience and choosing ski-touring. This old variety of skiing is a trip to the mountains on skis, utilizing special bindings that make them cross-country skis while climbing, and downhill skis while skiing.
This is not a sport, though it seemed, for the sportsmen. In the Alpine countries is even seen as kind of a family holiday. The climb is a time for conversation, and joint recognition of beautiful mountain places; free from the hustle and bustle of the traditional ski resort, it is a wonderful adventure, inclusive of family and friends.
Ski-touring is also a fantastic form of relaxation for mountain hiking enthusiasts, who usually suspend the winter practicing their hobby, until the snows melt.
Wandering skiers are also becoming increasingly numerous on the slopes of the Karkonosze. It is worth for example, to climb on skis to the hostel at Łabski Peak, or go to the peaks of the Karkonosze towering over Szklarska Poreba.
Anyone who has tasted these mountain hikes, surrounded by endless white and solemn silence, broken by the wind, will never forget the feeling. Ski-touring allows simultaneous communing with nature and skiing away from civilization.
Important: It is best to go on your first trip with a guide. The greatest danger in the course of this sport are the avalanches, as they often lead walks and hikes off the beaten track. It is essential to become well acquainted with the avalanche threat level, provided e.g. at the Mountain Rescue Unit, before the expedition. For safety reasons, you must also carry the so-called PIEPS, which locks onto the transmitter and helps find a person under the snow, as well as stock up on a lightweight shovel and an avalanche probe.
